Elks’ run is overat eight

GRESHAM – As well as they’ve played at home this season, the Bend Elks haven’t accomplished much away from Vince Genna Stadium.
That disturbing trend continued Friday night, when the Elks opened a three-game road series with a 5-2 Pacific International League baseball loss to the Aloha Knights in a game played at Mount Hood Community College’s Oslund Field.
The setback ended an eight-game winning streak for the Elks, who slipped to 9-4 in PIL play and 14-10 overall.
Bend played some sloppy baseball, falling behind in the third inning when the Knights scored two runs with the help of a balk, an error and a wild pitch. Another Elks error contributed to Aloha’s two-run eighth inning.
A solo home run in the seventh inning by Bend’s Chris Campos tied the score 2-2. But the Knights went back on top to stay when Scott Nelson, a sophomore from Oregon State University, countered with a solo homer of his own for a 3-2 Aloha lead.
Campos had two of the Elks’ seven hits, and Sean Kinney and Tyler Graham also had two hits apiece for Bend.
