Madras golfer in PGA Tour qualifier

LANTANA, Texas – Brian Miller of Madras has advanced to the second stage of the 2004 PGA Tour National Qualifying Tournament.Miller, a 1998 graduate of Madras High School and currently a resident of San Diego, played in first-stage competition held Oct. 26-29 at Lantana Golf Club. The Lantana event was one of 12 72-hole tournaments held around the country in the first stage of qualifying for the PGA Tour.At Lantana, Miller fired rounds of 70, 70, 71 and 72 for a 5-under-par total of 283. That was eight strokes behind leader Jaxon Brigman of Frisco, Texas, but in tying for 13th place, Miller advanced as one of the tournament’s low 23 finishers (and ties) to the second stage.Miller is scheduled to play a second-stage event Nov. 10-13 at Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, Texas.Those who advance from each of the six 72-hole second-stage tournaments will meet for the final qualifying stage, a 108-hole competition set for Dec. 1-6 on the PGA West Stadium Course and the Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta, Calif.
