Bend man now V.P. of PGA

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Brian Whitcomb of Bend has been promoted from secretary to vice president of the Professional Golfers’ Association.

According to a report on the PGA Web site, Whitcomb became vice president Saturday when Roger Warren, PGA vice president since 2002, was elected the association’s 34th president at the PGA’s 88th annual meeting of delegates on Amelia Island.

A PGA member for 19 years, Whitcomb has served as the association’s secretary for the past two years.

Warren, of Kiawah Island, S.C., succeeds M.G. Orender of Jacksonville, Fla., who will serve on the PGA board of directors as honorary president.

Since he began his career in 1978 at the Arizona Biltmore Country Club in Phoenix, Whitcomb has been involved in the design, construction and ownership of numerous courses.

This includes local work on Lost Tracks Golf Club in Bend in 1995.

He has served on the national PGA properties board since 1999, and he also was a member of the national PGA board of directors from 1998 to 2001.

The PGA board of directors is composed of the association’s president, vice president, secretary, honorary president and 17 directors. According to the Web site, the PGA board of directors oversees more than 28,000 men and women PGA professionals.
