Summit track stars shine at Idaho games

POCATELLO, Idaho – Summit High School athletes representing the Summit Track Club of Bend posted some good marks Saturday in finals competition at the 2005 Simplot Games.

The annual indoor track and field meet, sanctioned by USA Track and Field, is billed as a showcase for top high school competitors from throughout the United States and Canada. The games took place Thursday through Saturday in the Holt Arena at Idaho State University.
The highest place of the meet for Summit was in the boys 4-x-200-meter relay, in which Summit finished sixth among 12 finalist teams with a time of 1 minute, 34.41 seconds. The foursome consisted of Summit High senior Daniel Wiens, junior Aaron Campbell, senior John Torsey and senior Nathan Crabtree.
In individual events for Summit Track Club, Crabtree placed ninth in the boys 400-meter run in 50.53 seconds; Campbell finished 12th in the boys 60-meter dash in 7.18 seconds; and junior Lindsay Zimmerman tied for eighth in the girls high jump by clearing 5 feet.
Summit senior Gina Fuqua qualified for the girls high jump finals but failed to clear a height.
