You can always count on National Geographic to produce a visually stunning and informational guidebook.
So it is with ”Guide to the National Parks: West,” which covers Yellowstone, Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, Olympic, Crater Lake and more than a dozen others. Excursions to national monuments, wildlife refuges and preserves are also included.
Features include guided driving tours, hikes, interesting flora and fauna, historical sites and photogenic places. At the beginning of every chapter, there’s a list of the top 10 things not to miss in every park. There are also detailed maps of the parks.
Even if you’re not planning a trip, the trademark National Geographic photography takes you there. The book covers Northern California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming and Oregon.
The National Geographic Society is no stranger to the national parks of the United States. It helped create the system in 1916 and has published articles and guides on the national parks ever since.
”Guide to the National Parks: West,” is a 352-page, glossy soft cover. It retails for $22.
