Consumer electronics giant Best Buy opened its first store in Oregon east of the Cascade Mountains on Friday and became the latest retail anchor at the Cascade Village Shopping Center in Bend.
Best Buy, at 63455 N. Highway 97 in the former Mountain View Mall site, became the sixth store in Oregon for the Minnesota-based chain, the company said in a news release.
The 30,000-square-foot store will be the work place for about 120 employees. Store hours are: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Best Buy joins Petsmart, which opened last month, and Bed Bath and Beyond, which opened in February, along with established stores Food 4 Less, Ross, G.I. Joe’s and J.C. Penney.
Kevin Burnes, representative of mall owner Sima Corp., said import store Cost Plus World Market is expected to open before the end of June, and the company recently signed leases with Starbucks and Johnny Carino’s Italian restaurant.
Starbucks will occupy a 1,700-square-foot space on the east side of Cost Plus, according to the shopping center’s Web site. It’s expected to open by the end of July.
Johnny Carino’s, part of a Texas-based Italian restaurant chain, is expected to be the first in the Northwest. Its parent company anticipates opening nearly 500 restaurants in the United States and the Middle East in the next 15 years.
The Cascade Village restaurant will be 6,800 square feet and located on the east side of the shopping center facing Highway 97. It’s expected to open by mid-September.
