MILWAUKIE – Senior pitcher Jamie Torgersen struck out nine Redmond batters as Milwaukie shut out the Panthers 3-0 on Monday in the second round of the Class 4A state softball playoffs.

Torgersen, one of five Milwaukie players to earn first-team all-conference honors in the Three Rivers League, fired a five-hitter as the Mustangs (19-7-1 overall) advanced to Wednesday’s third round, where they will play at David Douglas.

Ellen Klain connected on a two-run single in the bottom of the first to stake Milwaukie to a lead it would never relinquish.

Redmond, the No. 3 seed from the Intermountain Conference, ended its season 14-13 overall.

No details for the Panthers were reported.
