Destination resort sells out

The first home site sale at Brasada Ranch, a new destination resort in Powell Butte, saw all 201 home sites sell within a two-day period.

The sale took place June 11 and 12, and a resort official says though the sell-out was not surprising, it was not expected either.

”We, of course, were hopeful, but we did not expect to have such a huge interest, especially from our Central Oregon family,” resort Marketing Director Suzie Kristensen said.

Most of the site purchasers are from Oregon, and many are from the Central Oregon area, Kristensen said.

Kristensen said the price of the one-half- to 1.3-acre home sites ranged from just under $200,000 to more than $450,000. The purchasers decide when construction begins on the sites, and Kristensen said many are interested in building homes as soon as possible.

”I’m assuming people could be in here next year,” Kristensen said.

Resort officials expect to start the second phase of sales, involving roughly 50 ranch cabins, in late August or early September, Kristensen said. The cabins have not yet been constructed, and Kristensen said purchasers can choose between several different floor plans.

The details of the second selection phase, such as the exact start date and the exact number of cabins for sale, will be worked out as soon as the resort finalizes the sales for the first 201 sites, Kristensen said.

”Right now we’re just kind of cleaning up what we’ve already done,” Kristensen said. ”There’s just a lot of paperwork.”

Bend real estate broker Carol Osgood purchased property at the resort during the first site selection and said the decision to make the purchase was easy, as the resort has much to offer because of her interests in golf and the outdoors.

”I think there was kind of just a pent up desire for something that was rural yet had all the elements of resort living, but on a much lower-key,” Osgood said.

Once land purchases and building construction is complete the resort will consist of 900 residences. Construction is currently underway on the 18-hole, 200-acre Brasada Canyons Golf Course, designed by Peter Jacobson.

The new resort is a joint project by Jeld-Wen, Inc., and Eagle Crest Inc. Eagle Crest also owns and operates the Eagle Crest Resort near Redmond.

In January, the state Court of Appeals dismissed an appeal filed by three Powell Butte residents concerned with the resort’s possible effects on farming and the overall quality of life in the area.

Powell Butte resident Terry Dorvinen, one of the resort’s chief opponents, said he does not anticipate any further action by himself or the others involved in the original appeals process, adding that he was ”pretty sure” all options have been exhausted.
