U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith are scheduled to speak Thursday at the dedication of two Bend facilities aimed at helping Central Oregon’s mentally ill.
The Healing Health Campus is made up of Sage View at St. Charles, a residential center to treat those with mental health crises, and Horizon House, an apartment house for those with severe mental illness.

The facilities will give the mentally ill – some who previously were forced to travel to facilities in Pendleton and the Willamette Valley for treatment – high-quality care closer to home, said Scott Johnson, director of the Deschutes County Mental Health Department.
”It provides local options for people with mental illness,” Johnson said.
The campus was built through a partnership between Deschutes County, Cascade Healthcare Community and the Central Oregon Regional Housing Authority. It will serve residents of Central and Eastern Oregon.
Sage View at St. Charles, which opened in February, has 15 private patient rooms and 24-hour nursing services for adults, said Minta Woll, spokeswoman for Cascade Healthcare Community. The nonprofit health-care company operates the center.
Horizon House opened about two months ago, Johnson said. It provides 14 affordable transitional housing units for adults with severe mental illness and for those with drug addiction.
The facility’s goal is to help residents achieve self-sufficiency, according to the housing authority.
