Injury accident on Highway 126

One person was reportedly in serious condition Saturday after an accident on Highway 126 west of Prineville.According to Oregon State Police, at about 2:48 p.m. Saturday, a 1996 Ford Taurus driven by Merril Higgins, 55, from Rainier, was traveling westbound on Highway 126 at the intersection of Reif Road when Higgins made a left turn and was struck by an oncoming vehicle – a white 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Edward Dupont, 36, from Prineville.Police say a 5-year-old passenger was ejected from the Ford Explorer at the time of impact. The child was in fair condition with only minor injuries resulting from the crash, according to a news release.All parties involved in the crash were transported to area hospitals to be treated for injuries. A passenger in the Ford Taurus was transported by helicopter to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend and was reported in serious condition. The person’s name was not immediately available Saturday night.An investigation into the crash is ongoing.Highway 126 was closed as a result of the crash and detoured by Oregon Department of Transportation for approximately two hours.
