Youth baseball team captures third

PORTLAND – The Redmond-based Oregon Select Baseball team captured third place at the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) West Coast National Championships held in Portland Sept. 1-5.

The team of 10-and-under players lost their opening game, 5-7 to the Lexus of Seattle but bounced back to win the next four of five contests. A 13-3 victory over the Mukileto Galaxy secured Select’s third-place consolation prize.

The top-three finish earned the team an automatic berth to the AAU National Championships in 2006.

Oregon Select Baseball’s offense was led by Redmond’s Jeremy Erisman who batted .500 (6/12), while Brayden Bordges of Redmond and Cody Connell of Bend contributed to the team’s success on the mound.

Defensive leaders included Lucas DeGaetano and Cole Moore of Bend.

The team also includes players from The Dalles and Roseburg.
