Wells Fargo financial services placed 18th on the Barron’s magazine top 20 most-respected companies in the world list. The list, in the Sept. 12 issue, is based on a survey of a number of factors including management, business strategy, competitive edge, consistent sales and profit growth, ethical business practices and product innovation.

Hooker Creek construction materials in Bend received the top annual Commercial Construction safety award from the Central Oregon Builder’s Association. All COBA members are eligible for the safety award, but only two are given annually, in recognition of a well-developed safety program that is maintained and continually updated. Hooker Creek operates three ready-mix plants, four hot plants, five rental stores, an excavation and paving division, sand and gravel pits, a working ranch, mechanic shops and a paint shop.
