Items are published on a space-availability basis, and should be submitted at least 10 days before the event.
BADMINTON
Trending
Wednesdays – Bend Badminton Club public play, 8-10 p.m., Athletic Club of Bend basketball gym. All levels of play offered. Rackets furnished, showers available. Cost: $6. Contact: Dave Grusy, 923-2523.
BASKETBALL
Ongoing – Registration for boys and girls basketball programs open to players in grades 6th through 8th. Joint program between Bend-La Pine School District and Bend parks and recreation. Boys registration open now through Oct. 14. Girls registration now through Dec. 16. Walk-in registration only at 200 NW Pacific Park Lane. Cost: $48. Information: 389-7275.
CYCLING
Thursdays in September – Thrilla in the Milla is a cyclocross bike racing series held each Thursday in September in Bend’s Old Mill District. Register from 5 to 5:45 p.m. in the parking lot on Southwest Columbia Street. Races start at 6 a.m. Cost: $10 per race or $40 for the series. OBRA license required. Course is 1 to 3 kilometers and races last about 45 minutes. Information: www.webcyclery.com or 318-6188.
Oct. 2 – Black Rock Ride begins at 10 a.m. at the Paulina Lake parking lot, 35 miles southeast of Bend. This is a tough 20-mile mountain bike ride around Paulina and East Lake. Ongoing – Teen conditioning class at Juniper Swim and Fitness Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20 to 4:10 p.m. Workouts include weight training, swimming, running, walking and kickboxing. RUNNING
Saturday – Eleanor Roosevelt Fund 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. at Redmond High School. Runners/walkers compete on a 3.1-mile course through Redmond’s Dry Canyon. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at RHS. Entry fee: $12 adults; $5 children ages 6-11. Free Kid’s Dash for children ages 5 and under at 9:30 a.m. Entry forms at Redmond’s Downtown Athletic Club, Peak Performance Physical Therapy and Extreme Fitness. Sunday – 2005 Bigfoot 10K is a 6.2-mile road run on a downhill course from the Inn of the Seventh Mountain to the Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend. Oct. 9 – Just Around the Bend marathon, half marathon and 10-kilometer run. 8 a.m. start, marathon and half marathon;, 9 a.m. start, 10K. Proceeds go to The Center Foundation. Entry forms: at FootZone, Athletic Club of Bend, or at www.bend-marathon.com.
Tuesdays – Fun run, 6 p.m., departs FootZone in Bend, through October. Runs alternate between trail and road, and last approximately 45 minutes. Contact: 317-3568.
Thursdays – Women’s running group, 5:30 p.m., departs FootZone in Bend. Pace ranges from nine- to 12-minute miles, distances from two to four miles. Contact: Julie, 390-2081.
Ongoing – Twice-weekly training runs for Just Around the Bend marathon, half-marathon and 10-kilometer run. Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Sundays at 8 a.m. Location varies. Individual coaching available. Information: WillRace Performance, 350-3938.
Ongoing – Saturday morning long trail runs with the Central Oregon Running Klub. Group departs at 8 a.m. from Drake Park on the east side of the Deschutes River across from the footbridge. Length varies from six to 18 miles with varying speeds. Information: www.centraloregonrunningklub.org.
SNOW SPORTS
Oct. 8 – 2005 Active Winter Outdoor Expo and Ski Swap from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.. at Central Oregon Community College’s Mazama Gym. The third annual Central Oregon Nordic swap includes new and used gear from two dozen vendor booths. Educational presentations, music, food and children activities also on tap. Oct. 15 – Skyliners Ski Swap from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mount Bachelor bus barn, 115 SW Columbia Ave., Bend. New and used Alpine and cross-country ski equipment, snowboards, winter clothing, ice skates, etc. to buy and sell. Proceeds benefit the Mount Bachelor Ski Education Foundation. Admission: $3. SOCCER
Oct. 19-21 – Soccer skills camp for boys and girls in grades 1-5 at the Central Oregon Indoor Soccer Center. Clinic held from 9 a.m. to noon, taught by certified soccer coaches. Cost: $40 in-district; $54 out-of-district. Register at Bend parks and recreation, 389-7275.
VOLLEYBALL

Ongoing – Youth volleyball registration is open for players in grades 3 through 5 at the Bend Park and Metro Recreation District office. Program begins Oct. 30 and runs through Dec. 8.
