People who want to remember a deceased loved one are invited to purchase a monarch butterfly that will be released at an upcoming event.

Hundreds of butterflies will be released on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Wine by the River, a two-day wine and entertainment gala at the Les Schwab Amphitheater, which is a fundraiser for Hospice of Bend-La Pine.

People may still purchase a butterfly through Monday for $15 by calling Hospice of Bend-La Pine at the number below.

The event will entail more than just the butterfly release. On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9, more than 25 Oregon and Washington wineries will set up booths at the amphitheater in Bend’s Old Mill District. In addition, an array of chocolatiers will also set out their wares. Five area restaurants will be selling sampler plates, as well.

Then, for $20 a day in advance or $25 at the gate, guests may sample wines and chocolate and engage in wine and cooking discussions with experts on hand. Musicians will provide entertainment from the stage.

For minors older than 10 and those who want to attend but plan on skipping the wine, entrance to Wine on the River is $10.

The money raised will benefit Hospice of Bend-La Pine.
