Sumner Charles Rodriguez of Madras died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 84.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at United Methodist Church in Madras.
Mr. Rodriguez was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Madras to Sumner and Hilda (Graybill) Rodriguez. He graduated from Grant High School in Portland in 1938. He studied economics at Reed College and graduated in 1942. He graduated from law school at Stanford University and passed the Oregon Bar Exam in 1949. He married Adele Knerr on July 17, 1949, in Portland and they moved to Madras that same year.
Mr. Rodriguez joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in 127th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion. He was deployed to England and Germany.
Mr. Rodriguez worked as an attorney for the cities of Madras and Culver, the local school districts and later Mountain View Hospital.
He enjoyed carpentry, camping, hiking, volleyball and tennis.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Glenn of Portland; two daughters, Adele Kay Young of Halfway and Sally Cramer of Oregon City; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Scholarship Foundation, the Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity or the Jefferson County Library District.
