Don Henry Vandenberg of Madras died Nov. 23 of natural causes. He was 56.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Madras.

Mr. Vandenberg was born Sept. 4, 1949, in Ellensburg, Wash., to George and Virginia (White) Vandenberg. He was a 1967 graduate of Sandy High School, and attended two years of college. He married Bobbie VanNess on Sept. 30, 1971, in Vancouver, Wash.

Mr. Vandenberg worked for the Gresham Public Works Department until a 1978 accident left him a quadriplegic. He later served on the Impact Committee from 2001 until 2005. He enjoyed informal witnessing, hunting, fishing and drawing with his mouth.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; a son, Don Jr. of The Dalles; three daughters, Celena Helms of Culver, Tina Gaspard and Lisa Kramer; a brother, Ray of Sandy; five sisters, Georgia Mertes of Gresham, Donna Dobin of Sandy, Laura of Las Vegas, Janice of Portland and Cindy of California; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Hospice in care of Mountain View Hospital.

Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
