Joseph ”Joe” E. Barber Sr. of La Pine died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 71.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Baird Memorial Chapel in La Pine. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Baird Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Barber was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Dunsmuir, Calif., to Joseph and Irene (Wilson) Barber. He married Wanda Ray on June 5, 1953, in Vancouver, Wash.
Mr. Barber worked for Union Pacific Railroad, and later as a commercial truck driver for over 35 years. He was given a national award for over 3 million miles of safe driving.
He retired in 1994. He enjoyed restoring old cars, fishing, hunting, traveling and had raced cars in the 1950s.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Jr. of Portland; three daughters, Debbie Lokting of Portland, Judith Simon of Eugene, and Katonya of La Pine; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
