Bend High teams sweep cross-country ski races

Holly Bailey of Bend High won the girls 5-kilometer freestyle race in a time of 18 minutes and 10 seconds to help lead the Lava Bears to the girls team title at Saturday’s OISRA Southern League cross-country ski competition at Mount Bachelor.
Joining Bailey on the winner’s podium were two teammates, Allie Phillips (20:13) and Lily Scott (20:36), who finished second and third, respectively.

The Lava Bears won the team title with 12 points and also placed first in the 3 x 1K relay in 11:58. Mountain View followed with 31 points and a time of 12:39 in the relay race.
Dan Gusset of South Eugene claimed the top spot in the boys 5-kilometer race, finishing at 15:54. Mountain View’s Kevin Brown took second with a time of 16:44, and Bend’s Scott Scholz was seven seconds behind in third.
Bend finished at the top of boys field with 18 points and a relay time of 9:27. Mountain View had 26 points for the day and had a time of 9:35 in the team relay.
