Who: Bend High Lava Bears (17-6, Intermountain Conference No. 3) vs. No. 3-ranked Oregon City Pioneers (21-3, Three Rivers League No. 1).
What: Second Round, Class 4A girls state basketball playoffs.
When: Wednesday, 6 p.m.
Where: Oregon City High School.
What’s at stake: The Bend-Oregon City winner advances to play the winner of Wednesday’s Jesuit-Jefferson game in the third round on Saturday. Losers are eliminated.
Admission: Adults, $6; students, $4.
Game notes: Bend is in the state playoffs for the third consecutive year … The Lava Bears are ranked first in the IMC in defense, allowing opponents 40.6 points per game … Four Bend players are ranked among the IMC’s top 20 scorers this season, led by senior post Kaitlyn Gould’s 10.0 per-game average. Brittany Bruening, Kimber Mattox and Kaitlyn Tebbs each average just over eight points per game … Oregon City, which placed third at last year’s state championship tournament, is making its 27th appearance in the postseason, the most of any Class 4A team … The Pioneers are led by Kristen Zimel, a 6-foot-2 senior wing/post whose 13.8 scoring average ranks third in the Three Rivers League.
