James 'Jay' C. Berry

Feb. 18, 1920 – March 14, 2006

James ”Jay” C. Berry of La Pine died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 86.

No services will be held.

Mr. Berry was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Aurora, Mo., to Grover and Mae Berry. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged. He married Norma Flynn on May 15, 1955, in Las Vegas.

Mr. Berry was an equestrian trainer for Gene Autry for over 21 years, traveling with Mr. Autry and teaching his horses to perform commands by voice. He was also a manager for International Trucking in Spokane, Wash., for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Kirkman of La Pine and Connie Mahlum of Federal Way, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother and a sister.
