Gerald ‘Gerry’ Henderson

Gerald ”Gerry” Henderson of Davis, Calif., died Friday. He was 78.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Davis Community Church. A celebration of life will follow.

Mr. Henderson was born July 26, 1927, in Bend to Frank and Hattie Henderson. He graduated from high school in 1945, earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture/horticulture/botany from Oregon State University in 1950 and attended the College of Environmental Design at the University of California-Berkeley. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He married Welles Adkisson in 1952 in Oregon.

Mr. Henderson worked as a landscape architect at the University of California-Davis, from 1963 until he retired in 1991. He also taught landscaping courses at the Adult Education School in Davis. He was a member of the Davis Community Church and was active in the Master and Mates church group. He was a member of a UCD bowling league and volunteered at the Davis Senior Center. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, listening to Scottish music and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Gary, both of Woodland, Calif.; a daughter, Janet of Davis; two sisters, Julia Coulter of Bend and Alice Walker of Medford; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to hospice, Parkinson’s Research or the American Heart Association.
