Bend tops tournament leaderboard

REDMOND – Bend High’s Andrew Vijarro claimed medalist honors with a 3-over-par 75 to help lead the Lava Bear boys to first place at the Intermountain Conference District Preview Tournament hosted by Redmond Thursday afternoon at Juniper Golf Club.

Bend finished atop the leaderboard with a team total of 312, two strokes better than runner-up Redmond (314). Summit was third at 323, followed in order by Hermiston (329), Pendleton (339), Mountain View (349), Crook County (374) and Hood River Valley (374).

Joel Salmond shot 78, Kyle Garland had a 79 and Chris Jarrett finished with an 80 to round out the Lava Bears scorecard.

Joe Heisler shot a team-best 77 for the second-place Panthers, who, like Bend, had all four of their counting scorers shoot 80 or better for the tournament. Alex Fitch had a 78, Mychal Denney 79 and Michael Reeve recorded an 80.

John O’Hollaren led Summit with a 78, Mike Chappell scored 78 for Crook County and Shayne Elsner’s 83 was the best round for Mountain View.

Madras finishes first

REDMOND – Madras placed first as a team and Scott Barton of Sisters claimed individual medalist honors at a four-team tournament hosted by the White Buffaloes at the Resort Course at Eagle Crest Resort. Sophomore Josiah Thompson shot a personal-best 81 and senior Rodney Katchia carded an 83 to lead Madras to a team total of 353, three strokes better than Sisters (356). Burns was third (393) and La Pine fourth (454). Barton shot a blistering 35-34-69 on a breezy afternoon to lead Sisters. David Peto’s 96 topped the La Pine scorecard.
