Deerhoof

In a weekend filled with alternative, but fairly straightforward, rock acts, Deerhoof will bring the weirdness.

The prolific Bay Area band has released seven albums over nine years, plus various EPs, live releases and singles. The overriding aesthetic of Deerhoofs sound is experimentalism none of the bands oft-changing lineups has ever shied away from mixing pop melodies, new-wave-inspired guitar rock, and even noise.

These days, the high-pitched vocals of Satomi Matsuzaki are the defining characteristic of Deerhoofs music, and the band released its most eclectic album, The Runners Four, last year on the Kill Rock Stars label. The album was praised by the indie-rock tastemakers at Pitchforkmedia.com, which gave The Runners Four a score of 9.0 out of 10.
