A Bend woman accused of killing her brother’s baby was arraigned Friday on murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal mistreatment charges.

Police say Katherine Ann Seifert, 25, shook 14-month-old Christina Seifert and threw her down inside a northwest Bend townhouse May 24. The child was pronounced dead that afternoon.

An autopsy revealed the baby died from head trauma consistent with being shaken.

Seifert also was baby-sitting her own 5-month-old child and Christina’s 2 1/2-year-old twin sisters at her brother’s home when she called 911, according to police.

Seifert was charged with murder May 25 and a grand jury indictment was handed down May 31.

Seifert has not entered a plea to the charges against her and is being held without bail at the Deschutes County jail.

She is scheduled to return to court Aug. 9 to enter a plea.
