Jimmy Ray ”J.R.” Strickland, of La Pine, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 74.
Mr. Strickland was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Holdenville, Okla., to Homer and Goldie (Pendley) Strickland. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1949. He married Carolyn ”June” Heberlin on Sept. 4, 1949, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Strickland worked as a firefighter in Modesto, Calif., and did security work at casinos in the Lake Tahoe area. He was a member of the California State Firefighters Association. He enjoyed woodworking, welding and landscaping.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David, of La Pine; three daughters, Teddi O’Buzz and Lynn, both of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Pam; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
