- Jamal Hernandez, 13, cools off with a spray to the head while taking a break from washing the family car behind his Redmond home Sunday.
Barbecue season should stay in full swing this week, with hot and dry weather forecast by the National Weather Service in Pendleton.
Temperatures should dip slightly from the 94-degree high Sunday to the upper 80s today and Tuesday, said Jon Mittelstadt, a national weather service meteorologist.
Those barbecuing tonight might want to keep the grill’s lid handy, to protect against some expected heavy wind gusts. Cooler marine air, which should cause the cooler temperatures today and Tuesday, could bring wind with gusts up to 35 miles per hour this afternoon and evening, Mittelstadt said.
After that, though, the forecast calls for the temperature to start inching higher. The temperature is forecast to increase by a degree or two on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. By Sunday, daytime highs could top 100, Mittelstadt said.
”It looks like a lot of dry air over us so we’re not expecting a lot of precipitation for Central Oregon,” Mittelstadt said.
Sunday also has a chance of storms reaching Central Oregon, albeit a small one, Mittelstadt said.
”We have to keep an eye on this weekend, because there’s a small possibility of some moisture coming up from the south,” Mittelstadt said. ”It’s probably not going to reach us, but we’re watching it.”
Nighttime temperatures are expected to gradually increase from the mid-40s tonight, up to the low 50s this weekend, according to Mittelstadt.
