Indie metal at Domino Room

If you dig a little gloom and doom in your guitar sound but not the tuneless screeching of so many heavy metal singers, Goblin Cock is worth checking out.

The band, led by indie-pop Renaissance man Rob Crow, will play Saturday at the Domino Room, located at 51 N.W. Greenwood Ave., in Bend.

Crow has had his hand in several excellent pop-based acts over the last decade or so, most notably Pinback. He also was one of the progenitors of the post-pop sound in the 1990s with his groups Heavy Vegetable and Thingy.

Crow has always had a penchant for writing airy melodies to go along with beat-oriented electro-pop music. Now, he’s unleashing his inner headbanger with Goblin Cock, which features Crow’s trademark vocals and heavy guitar riffs. The band’s album ”Bagged and Boarded” sounds like Pinback with the guitars set to full distortion.

Opening the all-ages show will be Traveling Sols out of Hood River. Doors will open at 8 p.m., with the show scheduled to kick off around 9 p.m.

Advance tickets cost $10 plus service charges at Ranch Records (389-6116) or through TicketsWest at ticketswest.com and the Safeway at 642 N.E. Third St. Charge by phone at 800-992-8499. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $12.
