After 35 years serving Central Oregon, Bend’s JJ North’s Grand Buffet was scheduled to close today. The buffet-style family restaurant chain at 2050 N.E. Third St., by Wagner Mall, has been owned by John Schulstad for the last 10 years, Schulstad said. ”We just can’t make it financially work in this location,” Schulstad said, citing increasing costs that include rising rent. He will continue to operate his 41 other buffet-style restaurants. A new tenant is expected to move into the location, but Schulstad could not say what kind of restaurant it will be.
