Bend runner finishes well at NYC Marathon

NEW YORK – A Central Oregon runner was among the top 400 finishers out of nearly 40,000 participants in the New York City Marathon on Sunday.

Jeff Caba of Bend finished the 26.2-mile marathon course with a time of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 43 seconds. Caba, 36, ranked 397th overall – 373rd among men, and 175th in his age group.

Several other Central Oregonians also ran in Sunday’s race.

Bend residents who completed the New York City course were Gretchen Boutin, 44, with a time of 4:54:55; Lee Husk, 54, in 5:08:41; Dave Husk, 56, in 6:01:18; and Kathy De Gree, 56, clocking a time of 5:10:23.

Mary Jo Grimes, 44, of Prineville, finished the race in 5:46:09.

The men’s winner of the event was Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil in 2:09:58, and the women’s champion was Jelena Prokopcuka of Latvia in 2:25:05.
