- Bend's Lindsay White works through the defense of St. Helens' Dakota White, right, following a rebound during Friday's game in Bend.
Bend High sprinted to a 22-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in posting a lopsided 55-19 nonleague girls basketball victory over visiting St. Helens Friday night.
The Lava Bears, the co-No. 9-ranked team in the state in this week’s Class 5A poll of coaches, improved to 5-1 on the season.
Bend pushed its lead to 38-3 at halftime and cruised in the second half.
”It was just one of those games,” said Bend High coach Steve Hayes. ”They were a little bit outmatched.”
Kimber Mattox and Jenna Boise each hit a trifecta of three-point baskets and finished with nine points each to lead the Lava Bears. Kaitlyn Tebbs added eight points for Bend, which had 12 of its 14 players who saw action score in the contest.
Bend’s game scheduled for this afternoon against Liberty of Hillsboro has been canceled.
The Lava Bears return to action Wednesday evening, when they travel to Hillsboro for a 5:45 p.m. game at Glencoe.
