PRINEVILLE – Thanks to Rachelle Wilson’s clutch shooting, visiting Summit was able to maintain a slim lead over Crook County, winning 51-42 in Intermountain Conference girls basketball action Friday night and keeping the Storm’s playoff hopes alive.

”We talked a lot about composure,” said Summit coach Scott Baker, reminding his girls before and during the game that they would have to step up their level of play to match the physical Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls would battle back to within three or four points, but weren’t ever able to close the gap, noted Crook County coach Kurt Sloper.

”Wilson hit some good shots; she definitely made the difference,” said Sloper.

Wilson, a junior wing, finished with a career-high 20 points.

After falling behind by only two points in the first quarter, the Cowgirls weren’t able to find the basket in the second period as Summit (5-6 IMC) continued to build on its lead. The Storm outscored Crook County 10-3 despite some good opportunities on the Cowgirls’ side, according to Sloper.

Crook County came out in the third period with renewed energy, making quick shots in transition and scoring 20 points in the period to put itself back in the game. Rachel Kelso made some ”big threes,” said Sloper, but it wasn’t enough to tip the score in the Cowgirls’ favor.

”We need to improve our team consistency,” said Sloper.

Jessica Lea led Crook County with 16 points and five rebounds, Kaitlyn Duncan finished with eight points and Kelso added six points, as the Cowgirls drop to 2-9 in IMC play.
