Local boxers named state champions

Three young amateur boxers from the Deschutes County Rocks Boxing Club in Bend won state titles at the Oregon State Junior Olympic Tournament last Saturday in Hillsboro.

Mickey Hernandez, 9, of Bend won the 75-pound state championship, and Spencer Perez, 14, of Bend claimed the 110-pound state tile.

Perez advanced to the Junior Olympics regional tournament in Tacoma, Wash., May 25-26.

Damion Hatch, 9, of Bend earned the 90-pound title in Hillsboro, and Giovanni Ortega, 17, of Bend won his bout in the 132-pound novice division.
