More dog walking

This is in response to Liz Rink’s letter titled ”Dog walking.” Since we moved to the canal area in question, we have had to install a chain-link fence ($1,800) to keep unleashed dogs out of our backyard. We’ve also spent over $200 in vet bills when one of our dogs, who always runs inside our fence when someone passes by, came in with a hole in his chest. I frequently find throwing-size rocks in our yard. We paid to have the canal in our backyard; we are taxed on it; and we insure it. We are tired of the dust and the noise from numerous vehicles, including bicycles, ATVs trucks with trailers.
Sorry, Liz, we can’t take your side; you and a few other responsible dog owners with their dogs leashed are in the minority. If we let you use our property, we have to let in all the others, who, in many cases, have let us know by their invectives that they feel they have the inalienable right to trespass on our property any time they feel like it.

We doubt these people trespassing on the canal would want people in their yard on a daily basis, day or night, 365 days a year, with the associated loss of privacy.
