Greg’s Grill, the long-awaited steakhouse in the Shops at the Old Mill District, opened its doors to the public Thursday. On the Deschutes River opposite REI and Saxon’s Fine Jewelers, the elegant 8,400-square-foot restaurant is the passion of Greg Hubert, co-owner of the Restaurant Development Corp., whose holdings include Red Robin and Johnny Carino’s. The menu features applewood-smoked steaks, rotisserie chicken, fresh seafood and a variety of salads. Open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. 395 S.W. Powerhouse Drive; 382-2200.

One Bend establishment going the extra mile to be kid-friendly is Volcano Vineyards. The micro-winery has a tasting room complete with toys, books and pint-sized tables and chairs for children. Owners Scott and Liz Ratcliff, themselves parents of two children under the age of 5, want to keep kids ”interested long enough for their parents, or even their grandparents, to enjoy a taste or two,” Liz Ratcliff said. And with cups and straws, the youngsters can also join in the tippling – but it’s water, not wine. 930 N.W. Brooks St., Bend; 617-1102.
