George T. Evans, of Redmond, died Thursday of natural causes. He was 73.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Baptist Church in Redmond.

Mr. Evans was born July 1, 1933, in Daly City, Calif., to Robert and Winifred Evans. He received an associate degree in criminal justice from Santa Rosa Junior College and earned teaching credentials from the University of California, Berkeley. He married Sharon Evans on Nov. 5, 1993, at the Salvation Army Church in Bend.

Mr. Evans served in the National Guard 49th Infantry Division from 1949 to 1951. He served as a dental technician in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, and he served in the Korean War.

He worked in law enforcement in Crooked River Ranch and retired in 1994. He was affiliated with Highland Baptist Church, the Police Athletic League, the Police Olympics and the Naval Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. He enjoyed fishing, boating, outdoor activities, aviation and teaching.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Jeffrey, of Petaluma, Calif., Steven, of Cottage Grove, George, of Sammamish, Wash., Ralph, of Petaluma, Calif., Danny Aldridge, of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Joe Aldridge, of Rohnert Park, Calif.; a daughter, Roberta Newsome, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Baptist Church Youth or the Bend High School Life Skills Program.
