Get a henna tattoo, help belly dancers

If you’ve ever wanted to get your skin decorated with henna, July 22 is your chance to do so while raising money to bring belly dance workshops and performances to Central Oregon.

On that day, members of the High Desert Bellydance Guild will share their skills in the art of mehndi (henna design) from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Central Oregon Environmental Center, 16 N.W. Kansas Ave., in Bend. The henna “tattoos,” which are not permanent, cost $10 each for guild members and $15 for nonmembers.

For dancers participating in a July 25 guild showcase, the designs can be a unique part of the costume, organizers said. Attendees should bring a potluck dish to share and their music if they want to rehearse for the showcase.

Those who want a decoration should contact Rasha so there is enough henna prepared. Call her at 410-4614 or e-mail rasha@bendbroadband.com.
