ALS support group starts in Bend

The ALS Association has announced a new support group in Bend for people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (commonly known as the Lou Gehrig’s disease).

ALS affects nearly 30,000 Americans, according to the press release. Common symptons include muscle twitching, impaired use of arms and legs, thick speech and difficulty projecting the voice.

The first meeting will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the Brooks Room at the Bend Public Library on Wednesday. Following meetings will be held the fourth Wednesday of every month at various locations.
