Highway 97 reroute to bring detours, closures in Redmond

Drivers in Redmond can expect some closures and detours on streets near the U.S. Highway 97 reroute for the rest of this month, while drivers elsewhere should be ready for delays in a handful of work zones.

The Redmond work will not affect the highway itself, only local streets, according to a news release from the Oregon Department of Transportation. Antler Avenue will remain closed until Aug. 14 as crews build a new intersection where it meets the reroute. Parts of Glacier Avenue and Canal Boulevard will remain closed until January.

Once the work on Antler is completed and it reopens, contractors will close Evergreen Avenue on the west side of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad on Aug. 16 for about three weeks to build the intersection where it crosses the reroute.

On U.S. Highway 20 east of Bend, between Hampton and Glass Butte, work crews will be sealing chips in the road throughout the week. Drivers may see delays as long as 20 minutes, with flaggers and pilot cars guiding traffic.

Near Sunriver, construction is continuing on the South Century Drive interchange at U.S. Highway 97. Crews are still working off the road laying earth and rock for the highway’s new alignment. There should be no delays.

On U.S. Highway 26 in Wheeler County, both east and west of Mitchell, crews will be installing guardrails. Delays should not be more than five minutes.
