CORVALLIS — Good things came in bunches for the Bend High boys soccer team Friday as the Lava Bears blasted Corvallis High 7-0 in nonleague action.

Bend (4-0 overall) scored three goals in a five-minute span at the end of the first half to take a commanding 4-0 lead against the host Spartans.

Corvallis never recovered as the Bears finished the rout with three goals in the second half.

“We’re getting more efficient,” said Bend coach Nils Eriksson. “We didn’t put everything away, but we’re getting better at finishing.”

Despite being marked by multiple defenders from the opening kick, senior Connor Mitchell led the Bears with three goals, finding the back of the net twice in the first half.

“Teams put a lot of effort (in stopping Mitchell), but he’s still able to spin away a bit,” Eriksson said. “And it gives others opportunities when the focus is on him so much.”

Drew Williams scored in the 57th and 59th minute, ending any hope of a Corvallis rally. Ryan Candella and Trevor Timm also scored for the Bears.

“They played extremely direct and in my opinion were a little hopeful,” Eriksson said of the Spartans. “It didn’t work for them.”

Bend goes for its fifth win of the season today at 11 a.m. against Crescent Valley.

CORVALLIS — The Cougars dropped their first game of the season Friday in nonconference action against the Raiders. Chase Holland and Taylor Bernhardt both scored for Mountain View, but it wasn’t enough as Crescent Valley’s 2-1 halftime lead was too much to overcome. “We were pretty much still on the bus,” Cougars coach John Howkins said about his team allowing a goal in the first five minutes of the match. “It was a lack of concentration.” Mountain View (4-1) plays Corvallis High today at 11 a.m. before returning home. “We had some good opportunities overall but we just couldn’t put it in,” Howkins said. “It was a little frustrating.” Crook County 11 Mazama 1 KLAMATH FALLS — Winning in a rout, the Cowboys set a school record for goals in one game Friday in a nonleague match against the Vikings. Daniel Teater, Pierre Blaise and Henry Ambriz each scored two goals as Crook County moved to 4-0 on the season. “Everybody played and everybody played good,” said Cowboys coach John Ries, whose team led 6-0 at halftime. “We even had two freshmen play a lot of the game.” Richie Carrillo, Alex Villagomez, Trevor Mottl, Nicolas Cerker and Chris Oswalt all scored for Crook in their record-setting game. “They didn’t have a (junior varsity) team so I figured they might not be that strong,” Ries said. “But we just kept playing.” The Cowboys hosts Eagle Point today at 1 p.m.
