Bend’s 2nd Street Theater is back on the market after local director Sandy Silver decided not to form a nonprofit in order to purchase the 6-year-old theater.
“I decided against going for the nonprofit, and there were many reasons,” Silver said. She would not elaborate.

Silver is still close to the theater, directing the current production of “Voices” as well as running the theater’s Young Actors Repertory Company.
The theater, which is owned by founders Maralyn Thoma-Dougherty and Steve Dougherty, will stay in their hands for the foreseeable future, said Thoma-Dougherty. Talks are pending with another potential buyer, however.
Thoma-Dougherty said the theater will stay open this season “and hopefully in the future as well because I don’t want to let it die.”
If no buyer steps forward, Thoma-Dougherty said they will sell the building but arrange to keep the theater as a tenant.
