UPDATE – A 26-year-old Bend man died early Sunday when the sports utility vehicle he was driving rolled over on Knott Road southeast of Bend.

An initial investigation shows the 1999 Dodge Durango was traveling north on Knott, approaching Rickard Road, about 12:30 a.m. when its passenger side tires left the road surface and traveled for a distance on the shoulder, according to a news release issued late Sunday by the Deschutes County Sheriffs Office.

The vehicle began to slide sideways and rolled several times, ejecting Paul T. Hopper. It came to rest against a brick wall and sustained major damage, the news release stated.

Paul Hopper, who was driving, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriffs Office said he was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol may have been a factor, according to the release.

A passenger, 23-year-old Michael Don Hopper, of Parma, Idaho, was treated and released from St. Charles Medical Center-Bend with minor injuries, the release stated.
