Cowboys advance at meet

BEAVERTON — Crook County ran its dual record to 13-1 on Friday after going 4-0 in pool play at the Northwest Duals. The Cowboys continue the tournament today, wrestling as a No. 1 seed in a 16-team bracket.

“All things considered, we’re holding our own,” said Crook County coach Mike Shinkle, who is without defending state champion Tyrel Albert (275 pounds) and returning state placer Micah Perry (160) due to illness. “It was a pretty good day.”

The Cowboys blew through their pool, first defeating Aloha 60-12 before beating the Renegades, a Portland-area all-star team, 60-9. Crook County finished the day with wins over Glencoe (38-24) and Cleveland (54-18).

Riley Omlid (103, 112 pounds), Brent Forseth (112), Brent Gast (125), Jared Dixon (130), Cody Dixon (135) and Howie Mole (215) all went undefeated for the Cowboys during the tournament’s first day.

EUGENE — After one day at the 18-team Jody Townsend Memorial Tournament at Sheldon High School, Mountain View sits in sixth place with 55 points and five wrestlers at 2-0 and qualified for quarterfinals today. Zach Moore (125 pounds), David Pike (135), Eric Piatt (145), Rod Latham (152) and Sean McNall (215) each went undefeated on Friday and go for more starting at 10 a.m.

Sweet Home was ahead after day one with 86 points.
