Robert “Bob” W. Morrow

Robert “Bob” W. Morrow, of Bend, died Sunday of natural causes. He was 87.

No services are planned.

Mr. Morrow was born June 3, 1920, in Albia, Iowa, the son of Woody and Ivyle (Phinney) Morrow. He studied engineering at California Polytechnic University in Pomona in 1939. He married Laura Spain on May 26, 1943, in San Antonio.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served as a fighter pilot, flying P-47 and P-51 airplanes in the European Theater. He also flew Spitfires for the Royal Air Force. From 1946 to 1951 he worked as a test pilot for Northrup Aviation Corporation in Ontario. He later worked as an investment banker in Florida. He was a Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was affiliated with Trout Unlimited and the Hackers golf group of Widgi Creek. He enjoyed fly-fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking. He had lived in Bend since 1987.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Rob, of McCall, Idaho; a daughter, Lora Maxwell, of Denver; a sister, Nancy Effner, of Palm Springs, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
