Grilled Hawaiian barbecue is the specialty of the Aloha Cafe , which opened Feb. 15 in the Crossroads Plaza complex at 27th Avenue and U.S. Highway 20 in northeast Bend. Owners Dan Feeney and Merv Abe claim the best teriyaki chicken in Oregon, made with a recipe that has been in Abe’s family for more than 100 years. Yakisoba noodles and potato-macaroni salad are popular side dishes. A smaller Aloha Cafe has been operating since last spring in the Sunriver Village Mall. Open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. 547 N.E. Bellevue St. (Crossroads Plaza), Bend; 382-5662. Also, 57100 Beaver Dr., Building 20, Sunriver; 593-5662.

The Spot , a new breakfast and lunch cafe in downtown Redmond’s historic E.C. Parker Building, opened Feb. 11. Co-owned by chef Scott Byers, formerly of Seasons at the Seventh Mountain Resort, and Scott Jennrich, who also owns Bend’s Astro Lounge, The Spot offers generous portions of traditional American fare — from eggs Benedict and Johnny cakes to New England clam chowder and a bacon-wrapped meatloaf sandwich. It also has a full bar and caters to vegetarians with tofu scrambles and house-made garden burgers. Open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day. 447 S.W. Sixth St., Redmond; 526-1826.
