Grin and Bear It races draw scores of runners

Nearly 200 runners took part Saturday in the sixth annual Grin and Bear It Run. The event, a benefit for Healthy Beginnings, was staged in and around The Old Mill District and included race distances of 10 and 5 kilometers.
In the 10K race, Mike Condon of Bend was first to the finish line with a time of 35 minutes, 14.9 seconds. Second overall was Billy Barnett of Bend, in 36:49.5, and third was Paul Parsons, also of Bend, in 36:58.8.

First among women’s entries in the 10K was Caryl Hosler of Bend with a time of 38:53.7. Second in the women’s division was Jenn Shelton of Bend, in 39:11.2, and third was Bend’s Nicole Smith, in 46:11.9.
Eighty-four runners finished the 10K.
In the 5K, Doug Lange led a sweep by Bend runners of the top three overall places with a time of 18:11.6. Andrew Jensen was second, in 18:33.1, and Eric Evanoff was third, in 20:08.8.
The winner in the women’s division in the 5K was Karlene Austin of Prineville. Her time was 23:09.0. Second among the women was Deana Schneider of Bend, in 24:49.3, and third was Abigail Lange, also of Bend, in 24:53.0.
The 5K race listed 111 finishers. Also, nearly 50 participants took part in a 1-mile fun walk/run.
All three courses started and finished at the Les Schwab Amphitheater.
