The Central Oregon Flyfishers club was named Oregon club of the year for 2007 by the Federation of Fly Fishers earlier this month.
According to COF president Yancy Lind, the honor was in recognition of the large number of members (more than 200) and the many education and conservation activities the club leads.
“It’s a great recognition,” Lind said. “There’s some things we’re really proud of.”
COF was selected for the honor among 21 other Oregon fly-fishing clubs in the Federation of Fly Fishers.
COF offers a variety of adult classes on fly-tying and fishing techniques. The club also organizes a youth education program called the Kokanee Karnival, a yearlong fisheries program for fourth- and fifth-grade students in the Bend-La Pine school district.
The club is active in conservation, and members often staff Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife projects, including fish counts, sampling and habitat restoration.
The Central Oregon Flyfishers meet the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Bend Senior Center. The COF annual banquet and silent auction is scheduled for March 29. New members are welcome to attend. Funds raised go to support the Kokanee Karnival.
