College Notes

Linda E. Foss, of Redmond, has graduated with an associate degree in applied science in nursing from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y.

Youth Notes

Katie Nye, of Bend, was awarded second place in her category in the Oregon State Youth Poetry Contest for her poem The Herd. She is in the eighth grade through Jewel Home School.

Henry Mensing, of Bend, was awarded honorable mention in his category in the Oregon State Youth Poetry Contest for his poem I Cant Forget. He is in the sixth grade at Cascade Middle School.

Samantha Bebout, of La Pine, was awarded a $1,000 Moose International R. Robert Dale Scholarship. She is a senior at La Pine High School and the daughter of Randolph and Judy Bebout, of La Pine.

The following students were awarded Junior Scholarships through The Center Foundation and local sponsors: Emilia Amaral, Bend High School, Rachel Broderick, Redmond High School, Anthony Corso, Summit High School, Travis Cunningham, Mountain View High School, Connor Flanagan, Redmond High School, Anna Pullig-Gomez, Sisters High School, Awbrey Gould, Bend High School, Allegra Keith, Bend High School, Rachel Reiter, Summit High School, Byron Riemhofer, Mountain View High School, Tessa Romme, Crook County High School, Rachel Schneider, La Pine High School, and Will Steinhauft, Bend High School.

Lauren Simpson and Jennifer Wunder were both awarded a $5,000 William K. Worrel Scholarship through The Center Foundation. Lauren and Jennifer are both students at Bend High School.

The following La Pine High School students received awards at the Future Business Leaders of Americas Leadership Conference in Portland: Scott Perkins, 12th grade, first place, accounting; Stacey Harder, 12th grade, and Erica Janssen, 10th grade, second place, business ethics team event; Nygil McCune, 12th grade, third place, client services; Cassie Schulz and Audrey Ewing, both 12th grade, fifth place, and Samantha Bebout, 12th grade, and Andreya Karrer, 10th grade, seventh place, desktop publishing; Spencer Miller, 11th grade, second place, impromptu speaking; Kayla Morgan, 12th grade, fifth place, personal finance. The team will be sending four students, Scott Perkins, Stacey Harder, Erica Janssen and Spencer Miller, to the national competition in Atlanta in June.

Malachi Stalberg, 10, and Jade Rollins, 9, were winners in the Redmond Librarys annual fourth- grade book contest. Participants submit original books with illustrations. As winners, Malachis book, King Mouse, and Jades book, Lolas Big Dream, will be printed and distributed to all school and district libraries, and the authors will participate in a book signing. Both students attend Terrebonne Community School.
