James Paul Williams, of Olympia, Wash., died Monday of pancreatic cancer. He was 56.

At his request, no services are planned.

Mr. Williams was born Oct. 28, 1951, in Hamhill, W.Va., the son of Charles and Krista Williams.

Mr. Williams was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969, serving several tours in Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1989. He worked as a general contractor. He enjoyed building, woodworking, playing bingo, slot machines, pull tabs, bowling, his dogs and spending time with family. He lived in Central Oregon from 2001 to February 2008.

Survivors include two sons, James Jr., of Olympia, and David Anderson, of Terrebonne; two daughters, Belinda Saulsbury, of Redmond, and Heidi Davis, of Terrebonne; two sisters; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a brother.

Funeral Alternatives of Washington in Tumwater, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
