MEDFORD — The ex-wife of a convicted embezzler has admitted taking more than $20,000 from her own employer. Cassandra Sam pleaded guilty to theft charges last week before a Jackson County judge. The 36-year-old was placed on probation and ordered to repay the dentist for whom she worked.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Tim Barnack said Sam’s sentence did not include jail time because it was her first offense.

Sam’s ex-husband, Wesley Pettegrew, got 19 months in jail when he was convicted in 2004. Barnack said Sam assisted him in the Pettegrew prosecution. Little did he know that she was stealing from the dental office at the same time.
