Swastika burned into lawn in Jordan

JORDAN — An Eastern Oregon man has reported a swastika was burned into his lawn after his wife proposed regulations that drew opposition in the community.

Don Swart says the swastika is about 3 feet across. He says the burning was done Monday, but the Nazi symbol didn’t become apparent until later.

Then he reported it to the Wallowa County sheriff’s office.

Evelyn Swart had proposed regulating special events in the city, and the City Council had given an ordinance a first reading. Business people opposed it.

But Swart had withdrawn her proposal a few days before the burning in her lawn.
